Glowing tephra

3.7.2018

Yesterday evening, the as yet biggest eruption of Mount Agung occured: It was a strombolian eruption, hurling red hot tephra into the air, which landed on the top third of the volcano. There it set fire to the vegetation, causing the mountain to glow spectacularly in the dark of the night. Contrary to some other reports, no molten lava has yet left the crater. The alert level has not been raised and the danger zone of 4 km around the crater rim has not yet been extended. The authorities appeal to the people who want to leave their homes at the volcano's slopes to do so in a calm and orderly fashion. Officially,  evacuation has not been enjoined yet.
